Sold the Deus 2. Back to Deus I

After I took my Deus II to Montenegro for the underwater detecting at the beach, I traded it for some cash and a Deus I with HF coil. The reason is that I just can’t get along with how it sounds. In Montenegro i did take it underwater, but when am i going to snorkel again and find stuff to pay back what it cost ?
The sounds are so confusing to me, like when I was on Sutomore beach a lot of the targets turned out to be very small molten aluminium blobs, while everytime I thought i had a bigger target. I tried all sound settings and I’m tired of having an expensive detector and getting annoyed by it. Also I had a really bad year on the fields here, not justifying having this high-end find-it-all detector. I really liked the old Deus and used it in 2014 to wade in the sea and I found plenty so I’m just going to do that again. I’m not waiting to have a superdeep detector for the underwater part of beach anyway since i can’t dig that deep. I didn’t get my Sovereign GT sold for a decent price so I’ll use it again here at the Belgian coast

Here’s our photos from the 5-day trip in May 2022. The beaches of Houlgate and Villers-Sur-Mer had close to nothing to offer because there weren’t many people that time of year. I found 10 cents lol. I didn’t detect that much anyway.


I did a very stupid thing after swapping my own Deus II : i told my mate I wanted to buy his deus II because he offered it too cheap. I put it for sale and found another guy to trade his deus I and some cash.. and then it turned out my mate didn’ have the WS4 headphones included. So that’s what you get when being presumptious. And stupid. So I guess i did a bad deal there and I’m still trying to fix it as much as possible.

This one I’m selling now for 700. Found someone who wants to give that but I have to drive to there in a week. I have another WS5 and white coil from the other trade i did (moron). I thought I’d keep the WS5 because no one wants to spend more than 150 to that, which is almost what they’d pay for a WS4 too. But then again, I rather have 150 and use my own corded headphones if i ever need them (which is rarely). Today I detected the field and I can’t imagine I’m missing tones because everything is very clear and I’m not a person that digs the tiniest of whisp.

Today I went out for an hour on some grass/Weeds with the HF coil. Not sure why people like it that much. I had it before and alwyas felt like it found a lot less. My mate would find 18 coins for example, with his 13″ black coil and I’d have like 4. Plus he’d have the smallest silver coins and I didn’t have anything. Not lol :p So I got rid of all whites and x35 and kept my 28cm old version and I was very happy with it. One of the last times I got to go on a well known trampled field and I got an average of 1 target dug every 2 minutes. It’s amazing.

My setup for today’s first hunt of the season. Trying to see what everyone is tlaking about. Again. Will try next time with big black coil. Probably I’ll sell the white again.

And all that with my new.. nope, my old Deus lol. The shop sent a email around to say they onlt got 15 Deusses in the first batch, and the second batch didn’t come as promised so that is looking like i will be spending several more months with my old Deus but ..

All the Deus coils..

My first Deus came with 22cm coil. Went ok in park and field, but never really got a breakthrough in the fields. THen I updated/upgraded to a used 28cm coil. Suddenly my field results were splendid ! Roman every time for a while ! Ending with a Golden Roman coin. Then about 1.5yr ago, I traded it for a white coil, which I then traded in for a 28cm x35 coil. And i didn’t find as much as I was hoping with all these new coils. My search mate, however, had a 13″ x35 and he found lots with it ! THat’s why i turned over to an x35 as well. Felt like I didn’t find much with this coil. Even if I wasn’t using the frequencies higher than 18khz which the old coils had (and I liked).

Then I got my hands on a cheap near-new Deus with small old coil, put that for sale with the choice and the buyer decided to go with MY x35. I was o kwith anything, since I needed to sell to get my new Deus II. I was left with the small coil again. Changed my settings to -6 disc, based on Fast program.. I don’t know what happened but suddenly it’s ALIVE again ! Went out. Found part of a silver coin, found gold pendant, found old silver. I’m like ‘WOW I will keep that small old coil at all costs !’ (kinda feel ikky that i chose the new DEUs with the bigger coil but anyway). Given that XP can’t follow up on orders, not anywhere CLOSE to it, i guess we WILL spend lots of time together still. I alrady had someone willing to buy my own Deus with the small coil, and he would come for it after NEw Year. Didn’t hear from him but at the same time, I don’t WANt to give my small coil away. Well, for money. Also I don’t want to lol.

Temperatures are near freezing ! That winter coat I once got at a discount price in Decathlon for 30 euro. It’s AMAZING for really cold places. I’m wearing 2 scarfs. No cold which is a good thing for a skinny girl 🙂
The mud is insanely sticky. It’s so annoying and it’s draining my energy.

A weird first date with HF elliptical coil

A few days ago, I bought the HF elliptical coil from a local guy who wanted to get rid of it. I alraedy owned the round HF coil and wasn’t too crazy about it. Let alone I was on the hunt for the even WORSE version of it. But i put it for sale. And went to try it out on a Roman field anyway. You never know :p

For 1.5hr, I went over the trampled fields (they still give good stuff though). I found only small thin foil and some other crap. No coins or anything.
I decided to go back to the car, and as so often happens.. I dig a hole and what I take out looked like modern dark grey metal. And then it hit me: this could be one of those special Roman Brooches ! I filmed the ‘unboxing’ and put it on my instagram as I always do. Of course, I just ordered a waterproof chockproof light compactcamera but it got lost in the mail so everything is filmed with lousy camera on phone. It’s a CROSS BOW BROOCH !! It’s my SEcond Roman brooch EVER which is preposterous, because I live on a Roman city with plenty of sites. And still I never find any. But apparently I saved my luck for this cool one.
THe only other thing I took home was my 3rd ceramic spindning whorle. It’s like 3.. it’s getting old lol.
Im still selling that HF coil. I don’t think it’ll happen every time like this. Besides, Weirdly enough, my first outing with my round HF coil ended up in me finding my 2nd Silver denarius. And that was on that same field. THen I stopped finding good stuff with it.

Other about the HF coil:
– It’s amazing how hard it is to pinpoint with it
– can’t find the target because the coil is only so deep it won’t feel the target when it’s on the wrong side of the ball of soil, or when it falls deeper into the hole
– won’t stay upright if you want to use the coil for checking soil, but then just let it fall on its side. Works too.
– foil, foil, copper wire. Also found 5 pieces of coke, which I never do otherwise.

Tried on 2 highest frequences (35-78?) and reactivity 2.5-3. I was hoping for a few small coins but nothing. Meanwhile I did find several things on that same field a few days before, like that copper coin of 1597. AMAZING !! Most coins of 1750 are washed off, and this, 150 yrs older, still has almost everything visible ! Yay. IT’s from the king Phillips II and it says ‘God is my master’ or something.
